Invitation: Street Drinking Webcast @ FACT

Posted By Peter / May, 7, 2012

Dear friends and fellow Ropewalks Residents,

You are invited to a webcast (live internet tv-style discussion show) at FACT on Thursday 17 May to discuss street drinking in Liverpool. This event will bring together a variety of people with an interest in the issue.

Are you affected by street drinking? Do you have a direct personal experience? Are you a local business? A health and welfare professional? Do you work in specialist alcohol services?

Roger Philips (BBC Radio Merseyside presenter and Ambassador for Decade of Health and Wellbeing) will chair the discussion and ask – do communities have strengths and resources which can generate new strategies to tackle street drinking?

The webcast will be live on the internet and the content recorded as part of research being undertaken by University of Central Lancashire. The research poises the question whether community ‘ownership’ of the issue and community led solutions are possible, what might they look like and how they might improve or add to specialist services? What role can digital media (such as webcasts) play in raising awareness and airing different views?

Schedule

11.30am – 12.30pm – Discussion on street drinking related to binge drinking culture
12.30 – 13.30 – lunch
1.30pm – 2.30pm – Discussion on street drinking related to homeless and dependent street drinkers

Places are limited so please register your interest for one or both of the discussions by emailing us on peter@ropewalksresidents.co.uk

Thank you!

Joe Anderson is first elected Liverpool Mayor

Posted By Peter / May, 7, 2012

Hi everyone,

No doubt you will have heard it already: Former Liverpool CC Leader Joe Anderson is Liverpool’s first elected Mayor receiving 57% of all votes on the day. More on the story can be found here:
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2012/05/04/joe-anderson-is-first-elected-liverpool-mayor-after-runaway-vote-success-100252-30899430/

Also – with more than 80% of the votes – Councillor Munby has been confirmed in his role as Councillor for the Riverside Ward. We are looking forward to continuing the good work with each other over the years to come.

All the best for Liverpool – and the Ropewalks!

INVITATION: 2nd Ropewalks Residents’ Forum (13th April ’12; 6pm @ Fact)

Posted By Peter / March, 29, 2012

Dear all,

As previously suggested, the meeting that was postponed on the 30th March will now take place tomorrow, 13th of April. We will meet for a 6pm start in the meeting rooms of Fact Centre (Ropewalks).

I hope that by now you are familiar with what the Ropewalks Residents’ Association tries to achieve here in the best part of Liverpool!

In September ’11 we installed a local Ropewalks Residents’ Forum – a regular get-together aimed solely at residents of the area. And as indicated in recent meetings (see www.ropewalksresidents.co.uk for more details), we are becoming more mature as an organisation by the day… So this invitation is the inevitable next step:

Unlike our monthly meeting with relevant agencies such as the Police, Environmental Health, Licensing, etc., this new forum is structured to pick up and discuss all concerns/ ideas or residents in a very open, inclusive and friendly environment and will be hosted centrally in the Ropewalks at convenient times for most of us (mostly evenings).

Points raised will then be taken forward to the already existing monthly meeting for discussion and feedback. This way we hope to hear residents’ concerns better and have a more effective loop of communication between the relevant people. To ensure transparency and accountability, an agenda and minutes will be available as usual. We aim to agree key activities and a chair for 2012 on the day.

Please let me invite you to our next get together on Friday 30th March from 6.00-7.30pm (Fact Meeting Rooms/ Top Floor!). This is for Ropewalks residents only. Please confirm your attendance via our ‘Contact’ form so that we can plan for the day.

Thanks and best regards,
The Ropewalks Residents’ Association
